Cancer insurance for Vida members

A cancer diagnosis brings costs your health plan doesn’t cover — travel to treatment, time off work, lodging, and everyday bills. Vida members can enroll in a Limited Benefit Cancer Expense Policy that pays cash benefits directly to you, in addition to any other insurance you have, to help cover them.

Underwritten by Loyal American Life Insurance Company, a Cigna company

What the policy pays

  • $10,000 First Occurrence benefit at the first positive diagnosis of internal cancer ($15,000 for a child under 21), once per lifetime
  • $20,000 per calendar year for radiation, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal, or experimental treatment
  • $500 per day of hospital confinement for the first 30 days, $1,000 per day from day 31 — doubled for a dependent child under 21
  • Up to $6,000 per surgical procedure, plus anesthesia, breast reconstruction, and skin-cancer surgery benefits
  • $125 per year for cancer screening tests (mammogram, colonoscopy, PSA, pap smear, and more), plus $250 for a follow-up diagnostic procedure after an abnormal result
  • Base-policy benefits for transportation, lodging, ambulance, blood, prosthesis, home health care, hospice, private nursing, and more
  • Optional Hospital Intensive Care Unit rider: $900 per day for any covered sickness or injury — $1,800 per day for cancer or a travel-related injury, $450 per day in a step-down unit — up to 45 days per confinement

Guaranteed renewable for life. Premiums cannot be raised because of your age, your claims, or a change in your health. The family plan covers you, your spouse, and unmarried dependent children living at home up to age 25. Coverage begins after a 30-day waiting period, and pre-existing conditions are not covered during the first two years. Applicants must have comprehensive health coverage or an HMO; the plan is not for anyone eligible for Medicaid.
