We've got answers.
Most questions about Vida are covered below. If you don't find what you need, give us a call or send a message and a real person will get back to you.
Becoming a member.
Vida is a member-owned credit union. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school, or does business in San Bernardino County, California. Joining is free.
You qualify if you live, work, worship, attend school, or do business in San Bernardino County, California. Immediate family members of current Vida members also qualify regardless of location.
Learn more about membership →Opening a Regular Savings account establishes your membership. Vida deposits the $5 membership share for you, so joining costs you nothing. There is no credit check, and joining does not affect your credit score.
No credit check is required for membership. We do check ChexSystems to make sure you haven't had recent account closures with negative balances. Applying for loans or credit cards later involves a separate credit review.
Online applications typically take 5-10 minutes. Most applicants receive a decision the same business day. You'll need a government-issued photo ID, your Social Security number, and basic contact information.
Yes. You can complete the entire membership application online via our application portal. You can also stop by the branch at 1520 N. Palmetto Ave. in Ontario if you'd rather apply in person.
Apply online →Banks are for-profit institutions owned by shareholders. Credit unions are not-for-profit and owned by their members. When Vida makes money, it goes back to members through better rates, lower fees, and reinvestment in the community, not to outside shareholders.
Vida is also a certified Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
Checking, savings, and more.
Vida offers checking, savings, money market, certificates, and IRAs. Zero overdraft fees, zero NSF fees, zero monthly service fees on most accounts.
Three checking accounts: PayAssure (our featured account with built-in transaction coverage), Dividend Checking (earns dividends on balance), and Freedom Checking (a basic checking option). All come with a free Visa Debit Card and access to online and mobile banking.
Compare checking accounts →PayAssure covers transactions on your account up to your qualifying limit. If a purchase would otherwise be declined or cause an overdraft, PayAssure covers it. You have to opt in to use it on your Visa Debit Card. Opt-in is free.
Learn about PayAssure →Regular Savings opens with a $5 membership share, which Vida deposits for you, and opening it establishes your Vida membership. Other savings products have different minimums: Money Market requires $2,500, Certificates of Deposit require $500, and IRA share accounts also start at $5.
Vida is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Your deposits are insured up to $250,000 per owner per insurance category. IRA accounts have separate insurance coverage from your other deposit accounts.
Four options:
- Mobile deposit through the Vida app on your phone
- At the branch teller window
- At any shared branch nationwide (5,000 locations)
- By mail to 1520 N. Palmetto Ave., Ontario, CA 91762
Money Market accounts give you access to your funds with a 5-withdrawal monthly limit and earn dividends on your balance. Certificates lock your money for a fixed term (3 to 60 months) in exchange for a higher guaranteed rate. Choose Money Market for flexibility, Certificates for higher returns on money you won't need.
Yes. Most members have a checking account, a savings account (for membership), and often additional savings products like Money Market or Certificates. You can also open joint accounts, custodial accounts for minors, or retirement accounts.
